Pastor Ray’s Message Integrity Matters Ruth: 3
There are so many parallels between our modern world and the book of Ruth.
We see shattered dreams, hardship, loss, disorientation, bitterness, pain, financial worry, and uncertainty about the future.
But we also see hope, goodness, generosity, and redemption.
We see the absolute commitment of God to step into our pain and to write a new story over the broken one.
Where do we see that in Ruth 3?
The chapter expands on the concept of a ‘kinsman-redeemer’.
This person was a near relative who could help another of his close family in need by buying their property until they were able to buy it back.
A kinsman-redeemer could also marry a widow of a close relative and so keep the property in the family and ensure the family lineage continues.
We see this in chapter 3 where Ruth asks Boaz to spread the corner of your garment over me or more literally, to spread your wings over me.
Ruth was asking Boaz to risk his reputation, his wealth, and the rest of his life on her. This is such an incredible picture of what Jesus Christ does for us.
- He was prepared to give up everything for us. He took a risk to come into this world to win us over.
- He gave up the wealth of heaven and took on human flesh.
- He is forever linked to us as our kinsman (relative) and He is our Redeemer and God.
- He is the one who has spread His wings over us. (Psalm 91:4)
In His extravagant grace, God enters our stories and rewrites them for His greater glory.
In Jesus, Ray
